# Chats

> Your Ask conversations are kept — in the menu under Lists, picked up where you left off; earlier questions were moved into chats too.

Every question you ask (`Ctrl+J`, the AI box on Today, or `Tab` from the palette) is written to a **chat**. Chats live in the **Chats** section under **Lists** in the sidebar and on the **Chats** page, so you can continue where you left off — after changing pages or the next day.

## In the Ask panel {#panel}

- The first question starts a new chat, named after that question (you can rename it). The chat's name shows at the top of the panel — click it to open the chat full-page.
- Further questions in the panel go into the same chat. The AI reads the earlier questions and answers **from the chat on the server**; press `Ctrl+J` on another page and the chat of the last hour reopens with its answers.
- **+** in the header starts a new chat, the clock icon opens the **Chats** page.
- A question from the Today box, the palette or a meeting's **Prepare for meeting** button — while the panel is closed — starts a new chat.

## Chats page {#page}

- Chats are listed most recent first in date groups (*Today · Yesterday · Last 7 days · This month · months*): name, a short line from the last answer, number of questions and time.
- Search finds words in names, questions and answers; the **Starred** filter shows the chats you starred.
- **⋯** on a row: *Open · Continue in Ask · Rename · Delete*. A deleted chat is removed permanently with its questions and answers.
- The chat page shows questions and answers in order with linked records as chips; continue from the box at the bottom (with AI on you can pick the model). Click the title to rename.

## Earlier questions {#migration}

Questions asked before v50 were not lost: each person's questions were split into chats in time order, **questions less than 30 minutes apart in the same chat**; the chat takes its name from the first question and its date from the last.

## On the phone {#mobile}

In mobile app 2.6, Ask lists your recent chats when it opens; tap one to continue where it left off. The clock icon at the top opens all chats (search, star, rename, delete) and **+** starts a new chat; Menu → **Chats** is the same list. [Mobile app](/en/guides/mobile#app)

## Privacy {#privacy}

Chats are personal — admins see only their own. Answers always use your own permissions. With AI on, the question and summaries of related records go to the AI service (people's phone numbers and e-mail addresses are never sent); with AI off, answers are rule-based and no data leaves the installation. Chats are not part of the workspace export.

## API {#api}

Send `chat` (an id, or `0` for a new chat) in the body of [`POST /api/v1/ask`](/en/rest-api/ask/ask); the response carries `chat` and `chat_title`. List chats with [`GET /api/v1/chats`](/en/rest-api/ask/chats-list), get one with [`GET /api/v1/chats/{id}`](/en/rest-api/ask/chats-get), rename / star / delete with [`POST /api/v1/chats/{id}/{action}`](/en/rest-api/ask/chats-action). `/me` → `caps.chats`.
